This is the add/remove applications utility, which is the predecessor to the Ubuntu Software Center. It works just as well if not better as the USC.

Whoops, almost forgot about file management!
Ubuntu uses the well-thought-out Nautilus file manager throughout it’s many versions. Nautilus is by far one of the best file managers in the Linux world. It is feature rich, and it allows you to manually enter a path name, or an SMB, FTP or SFTP URL (no HTTP URLs as Nautilus is not a web browser in any way, arguably a good thing).
