A/UX 3.1 Text Editor
This is the Text Editor included with A/UX. The standard TeachText is also included.

A/UX 3.1 DocView
A/UX also includes DocViewer, which I suppose is roughly equivalent to something like Adobe Acrobat Reader?

A/UX 3.1 Add user
Here we are adding a user the UNIX way via the command line.

A/UX 3.1 Set new password
The default options have new users set passwords on first logon. Of course there are a bunch of restrictions on the content of the password by default as well.

A/UX 3.1 Guest
Here we are now logged in under the guest profile, which outside of a slightly different home folder (no copy of the System Folder, just an alias) isn't much different from other users by default.
It is possible to log in directly as root, which again isn't much different other than not having a home folder on the desktop at all.

A/UX 3.1 Root required
A/UX 3.1 Shutdown
Shutting down A/UX, which of course requires root permissions...
Interestingly there is no soft power off here. The Quadra 800 supported that, but the 950 (which was also sold as the Workgroup Server 95) didn't.

Conclusion:
A/UX is definitely an interesting take on the Mac OS. It inherits all the archaisms of classic UNIX, plus all the archaisms of classic Mac OS...effectively the worst of both worlds. Still, it's an interesting blend of technologies and with some further effort might have actually lead somewhere. Imagine if instead of Mac OS 8 Apple shifted gears to A/UX?
