Mac OS 8 now includes this "Info Center", an offline web document detailing ways in which to get the most out of your Macintosh.

Mac OS 8 also now includes several of these "assistants", which function similar to wizards under Windows, to walk through configuration of various system aspects (such as internet connectivity, as shown here).

In 1997, shortly after Steve Jobs returned to Apple, they "made a deal" with Microsoft (i.e. M$ basically threatened Apple to get what they wanted) in exchange for continued support of MS Office on the Mac that Apple had to bundle Internet Exploder as the default browser.
This came to fruition with Mac OS 8.1, as shown here. This is an earlier release of OS 8.1, as such it includes IE For Mac 3.0. Later copies got IE 4.0.
"Since we believe in choice" (direct quote from Jobs), Apple has also bundled Netscape 3.01, and it is possible to choose which browser you want as your default (imagine that).
Of course if you don't install any of the internet components, you don't get either browser. Maybe that's the optimal solution.

For e-mail Mac OS 8 includes Claris E-Mailer Lite by default.

There is a new "button" view in the Finder, alongside the standard icon and list views. |
