Windows 7 now introduces sticky notes, something OS X has had for years.

The control panel still defaults to an ugly webby view that is completely unnecessary, but the classic view has been brutally murdered by a couple of webby icon views.

It looks like Microsoft has finally convinced people that software should not be uninstalled. The old Add/Remove Programs feature is now simply called Programs and Features.
It is interesting to note that IE can now be removed. However all this does is remove the IEXPLORE.EXE loader, removes a few icons, and unregisters the HTTP shell handlers. Dropping IEXPLORE.EXE into the Internet Explorer folder re-enables all of that. However, after refusing to allow any part of IE to be removed for almost 10 years this is a slight improvement.

Since I have already ranted about it hundreds of times prior, I will spare you the page space, but if you want to read about why this particular shot is here and what I think of it, click here to see my page about ribbons and menus.

Microsoft advertised that with Windows 7 they would be simplifying everything.
In Windows Vista we had:
- Applications that use menus
- Applications that use a web-style interface
In Windows 7 we now have:
- Applications that use menus
- Applications that use a web-style interface
- Applications that use the ribbon
So much for simplifying everything. |
