Xandros of course uses Firefox, likely as back in 2007 there were not a whole lot of alternative options. Although interestingly, as we will see later, Xandros is using KDE, so I am a little surprised not to see Konqueror as the browser of choice.
Here we can now get a look at the windowing controls, which look almost identical to Windows XP's silver theme. Windows XP would have been the popular OS choice at the time, so this also makes sense.

The web mail shortcut points to GMail, again a very popular choice at the time. Of course being as bloated as Google sites are now it doesn't work in Firefox 2. The other links to Google services (iGoogle and Google Docs) similarly don't work; iGoogle is gone entirely, and Google Docs tries to load but can't for the same reason as GMail.

There is also a link to this internet radio service called MediaU, which until a few years ago (2023 or so) still worked. Of course then the site broke, and as of February 2025 the service is gone entirely. What a shame.
I will use this opportunity to say that the same is true of the Wikipedia link; Wikipedia proper still works, but now requires a TLS security level that Firefox 2 can't handle. Again, what a shame.

In typical Linux fashion, setting up networks is a little more than a pain, although at least this utility tries to make it a little easier. I could not get this tool to work to connect to my wireless network, I had to use the wireless config icon in the notification area (which is the same as the Wireless Networks link) to choose a network and enter my password. You can do that here too, but it refuses to connect for some reason.

Here is a service that still works: the instant messenger program included is the standard Pidgin suite, which can connect to a wide variety of services, a few of which probably still work fine. |
